Who Am I? | Knowing Your Identity in Christ
When I look for my identity in the mirror (image), financial success, or anything else like a career or relationship - I find myself constantly striving. Never content or fully satisfied. There's always more workouts to do and more money to be made. I am building my identity on the sand with those things. It's not a firm foundation for me or you to trust in.
You know Simon-Peter in the Bible? He had a name change, from Simon to Peter. The name Simon means shifting sand. Jesus was talking to His disciples and asked them “who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “...And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:15-18 Jesus changes Peters name in the Bible from Simon, shifting sand, to Peter which in the Greek means rock. The rock that Jesus was talking about building His church on was Peters profession of who Jesus was - the Son of God. He knew and understood who Jesus was. He went from shifting sand to a solid rock. What I'm getting at here is this: To the degree that you know Jesus is the degree that you know who you are. Your identity will be built upon the rock - the unshakable foundation of being a child of God.
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” - Revelation 4:11
We were created for Gods pleasure - to bring pleasure to Him and glorify Him. That's a firm foundation to build your life here on Earth on because it's built to carry you into eternity. Don't build your life on the sand in this life that will be over in a blink of an eye. God loves you so much! He sent His Son Jesus to save you from striving and building your life on sinking sand! It's never too late to do like Peter and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord ❤️ #choosejoy
